What is it
A crown is a cap that covers the whole visible part of a tooth to restore its shape, strength and appearance. Zirconia crowns are very strong and tooth-coloured, which makes them a good choice for back teeth. Porcelain crowns offer a natural translucency and are often chosen for front teeth where appearance matters most.
Who is it for
Teeth weakened by large fillings, cracks or wear, teeth after a root canal, teeth on implants, and cosmetic improvements.
What to expect
The tooth is shaped, a digital scan or impression is taken, a temporary crown protects the tooth, and the final crown is fitted in a later visit. Your dentist will recommend the most suitable material for your tooth.
Aftercare
Normal brushing and flossing, regular check-ups, and avoiding chewing very hard objects.
